What is meditation?

 

Meditation is a technique used to train the mind by encouraging a heightened sense of awareness and focused attention. It is a mind and body practice that has historically been used to increase calmness and physical relaxation. Meditation has also been proven to enhance overall health and wellbeing, which includes improving psychological balance and coping with illness.

While there are several different types of meditation, most include these four basic elements: A quiet space with the least amount of distractions possible; a specific and comfortable posture; a focus of attention; and an open mindset and attitude.
